CEDD's new Community Centre to showcase "second life" components

The Civil Engineering Office's brand-new Community Liaison Centre, "Connection", officially opened to the public late last month. It is Hong Kong's first building to incorporate circular architecture concepts.

Located on the Ma Liu Shui waterfront, the centre adopts a range of innovative materials and engineering techniques, including engineered bamboo, low-carbon concrete, and biochar concrete. 

Every primary structural component is designed with the potential for a "second life" in mind—if the building ever needs to be disassembled in the future, it can be reassembled at another location.

The Civil Engineering and Development Department stated that it hopes to use this facility as a demonstration project to help expand innovative materials and technologies to other local development projects, as well as to other regions. Apart from being closed on Mondays for facility maintenance, the centre is open six days a week.
